A lot has happened in a short period of time but before giving an update on developments I would like to thank those involved in managing CSCL in recent years. We ask a lot of our volunteers and staff and it right and proper to thank them all for the work they have done.

Infrastructure 

Disabled Toilet. The fact we have not had a disabled toilet has been an embarrassment to us all. As I write this it is nearly completed and a very big thank you to Jon Bagley, assisted by the generosity of Pete McGrail and the hard work of Rob Rayner

Tea Room. It has been apparent that when we have busy Saturdays that the hockey teams need somewhere away from the press of people to have their teas. Thanks to the hard work of the Last of the Summer Wine gang, and the generosity of Bathgate in supplying the flooring, the old shop and adjoining storage area have been turned into a tea room. The tea room is for the hockey teams on busy Saturdays and I hope everyone will respect that.

Staff 

Sue left in May and I would like to belatedly thank her for the excellent roasts many of us enjoyed. Amy stepped into the breach and helped us to get through the summer months and a big thank you to her from all of us.

We appointed Rachael Woolley as Operations Manager as from the 1st August. Rachael is now responsible for all aspects of operations for the bar and catering. Amy is a team leader and we are looking to recruit one more team leader to work alongside her. I know a lot of work has been going into getting the catering side working well and we are confident that normal service will resume for our first home match.

Paul Harrison has volunteered to be House Chairman and I know he is looking for volunteers who will give one day a month up to carry essential works on the club house. A few good people working alongside the Last of the Summer Wine Gang will dramatically improve the clubhouse experience in no time and I am sure those who volunteer will find it good fun as well.

Finance 

It is no secret that CSCL has struggled financially over the years and this shows in the lack of investment that we have had in the infrastructure. A big part of CSCL income is the contribution of the sections on a per capita basis – and going forward these contributions will be made by the different rugby sections as subs are received on a monthly basis. This should mean that, along with a reduction in overall costs, that CSCL will be in the black at the end of the financial year. It is also our intention to generate revenue from more external events; the greater our revenue the more we will have to invest in improving our facilities.

We will shortly be launching a Development Fund to raise money to bring the club house up to an acceptable standard and for the longer term to give us funds to redevelop the club house. More details will follow .

Grounds

The Rugby grounds continue to be looked after by the Last of The Summer Wine Gang and what an excellent job they do. I know they are always looking for new members of the team who can give a day up a week and in return will be part of a team that have varied social activities (I enjoyed an excellent and surprisingly profitable day at Cartmel Races with them in July) and give us the best pitches in the North of England.

My final wish is that all sections, Rugby, Cricket and Hockey, have enjoyable and successful seasons.

Changes: the biggest change is that Senior Rugby is now a section of the Rugby Club. As a section senior rugby has its own budget and bank account and there is no co – mingling of money.

I would like to thank Catherine Sandow and Anna Groves for all their hard work on the commercial side. We now have new Commercial Manager though with Rachael Woolley splitting her time between her roles as Operations Manager of CSCL and Commercial Manager of Caldy Rugby. As a section we will be looking to widen our commercial activities during the 209/20 season and if you can help in anyway or support events organised that would be much appreciated.

The 1st XV will be playing at Level 4 in National 2 North after the disappointment of losing in the last few minutes at Moseley at the end of last season. Many old friendships will be renewed and the players go into the season with optimism after a hard pre season

Community Rugby 

The 2019/2020 season at Caldy RFC is an exciting new venture for all concerned.
This sees the introduction of Community Rugby which includes mini, junior, colts, women’s and touch rugby. We will be separate from the senior teams, with our own budget and the ability to shape the future of our sections, to the benefit of all our members.

Of course, as the first year of our new section, there will be a lot of lessons to be learnt and there will be teething issues. We hope that everyone will give us their support and back what we are trying to achieve.

Registration for all mini, junior and colts players will take place from Sunday 8th September. This will involve dissolving all previous DD mandates held by the club and registering with GMS (Game Management System) via the RFU. It sounds complicated, but it’s not. Tim, Lisa and Nigel will be present on Sunday to guide everyone through the process.

We have new budgets set out for many things. This includes post match meals, coaches training, playing equipment, festival entry fees, medals, trophies and awards, as well as refereeing and first aid courses. Until we have completed our first year in charge of our own budgets, we will not know how accurate they are, so it is a work in progress.

As always, we can achieve nothing without the help and support of all the amazing volunteers in all sections of our club. Our heartfelt thanks go to all of them.

We have a committed leadership team who are determined to make this new venture work. We are available throughout the season if you wish to discuss anything with us.

Caldy Club House and Events

With the new season upon us, we are really looking forward to a very successful and enjoyable year. There have been some changes within the Sports Club, some that you will notice on your return when you go to the bar for a drink and have some new choices on offer.

We are looking forward to holding more events this year, with Quiz nights, Christmas parties to name a few. Keep checking the Website and Facebook page for information.

I would like to bring to all our Members attention that the Club house is available to hire, whether it be for a Birthday Party, Wedding or any other celebration and occasion, with great Discounts for those that are Members.
