That Friday Feeling – 19th April 2024

Tomorrow Championship leaders Ealing Trailfinders come to Paton Field to take on the Ravers in their penultimate home game in this Championship season. Over the last few years Ealing have consistently been the strongest side outside the Premiership. Earlier this year Ealing narrowly lost the semi – final of the Premiership Cup against Leicester Tigers after dominating for large parts of the game.

Ravers’ supporters understand how difficult matches against fully professional sides are but they also understand that upsets do happen, with none bigger than last season’s giant killing at Paton when previously unbeaten Ealing were vanquished 26-24 with a try from Caldy’s Louis Beer in the last play of the game. The video clip of the score and the unbridled jubilation from a clutch of Caldyminis went viral throughout the rugby world, racking up more than 5 million views within 48 hours. To repeat the feat is going to be quite a challenge!

Earlier on Saturday Caldy’s 2nd xv will play their final game of the Halbro Premier League against 2nd placed Preston Grasshoppers with an early midday kick off at Paton Field. Hoppers have enjoyed a terrific latter half of the season winning their last 9 games and they pose a significant threat to Caldy’s remarkable 5 year unbeaten streak. It promises to be a very hard fought but enthralling encounter
