Celebrating the life of Russell Black 1939 – 2024

It is with great sadness that I share with you all the passing of one of our club’s longest and most dedicated supporters. Many of you will have had the pleasure of meeting Russell Black over the decades of his involvement with the club. Russell has been an integral part of the club for many years as not only our chair but also as a sponsor and more recently an avid supporter. He travelled the length and breadth of the country until relatively recently to support the team at home and away.

Russell was instrumental in setting a path for the club to progress from junior club level to the current lofty heights of Championship rugby, where many of us enjoyed his company at numerous lunches before the game. Russell’s contribution to Caldy Rugby cannot be underestimated and is a fitting legacy for a true gentleman, a successful businessman and a great friend to many at Caldy RFC.

Russell will be sorely missed by all of us. May he rest in peace.

As a club, we will mark our friend’s passing with a minute’s silence before the final first-team home match of the season at 3 pm this Saturday, the 20th of April. Our flag will also fly at half-mast.
