That Friday Feeling – 6/11/26

, , , ,

An early 1 pm kick off at Paton Field tomorrow as Caldy take on Coventry in another tough fixture in the Elior Champ. It doesn’t get any easier for the Ravers as they look to bounce back from last weekend’s fifth loss of the season, away against Richmond. There were positives. They picked up a losing bonus point on the road, and they could and probably should have picked up a win after being 35-12 down at half to end up 35-29.

In all 6 games this season the Ravers have started slowly and surrendered what has seemed an almost unsurmountable lead before nearly closing the gap with a strong second half performance. The coaching staff have worked hard to eradicate this worrying trend but so far little has seemed to have worked. “We are very conscious of the difficulties we are causing ourselves with such sluggish starts” said Head Coach Matt Cairns “and we have made it a significant focus of our training and pre match preparation. We will have to be better on Saturday when we match up against a very strong full-time Coventry side.”

Despite Caldy’s poor early points tally they are still outside the relegation places, but they are coming into a block of three very difficult games against full pro sides in Coventry, Cornish Pirates and Ealing. Matt Cairns and his team will need as much support as the Wirral can muster this weekend.

Matt Cairns has selected the following squad for the match against Coventry which kicks off at 1 pm with gates open at 11 am.
