Caldy – That Friday Feeling 30th January ’26

, , , , ,

After two successive wins against Ampthill and Doncaster Knights, last weekend the Ravers came off second best in their Champ fixture against Richmond. Caldy’s Head Coach Matt Cairns rued the dropped points. “The two-week break from the Champ didn’t do us any favours and we were very much below par last weekend. We never recovered from a poor start and collectively throughout the game we were at least ten percent below where we should be. We have previously proved the adage that every team in the Champ is capable of beating any other, but this only happens if we play at the very top of our game.”

The recent away win against Doncaster and the early season form demonstrates what the Ravers are capable of. This weekend the Ravers have a chance to put last week’s reverse behind them with the visit of Nottingham RFC to Paton Field. Although the Ravers have won the last three encounters the ‘Archers’, who sit just outside the top six, have no obvious weaknesses in their game. They have a very much-improved pack of forwards and quicksilver backs who can shred any defence.

“It is going to be a big game for sure” said Cairns “This weekend we are the Champ’s showcase game so the TV cameras will be at Paton Field. It is a big opportunity for the Caldy squad and the Wirral to show the rugby world what Paton Field is all about. Nottingham play a fast-paced game and have been in good form in recent weeks. We need as big a crowd as the Wirral can muster. A full and noisy bank makes a really big difference and spurs the lads to give that extra couple of percent which makes the difference between winning and losing”
