After two weekends without Champ rugby round 20 sees the Ravers travelling to Thame to take on Chinnor. Since their elevation to the Champ 8th placed Chinnor have wasted little time in putting down a considerable marker that signals they are here to stay. They have realistic top six ambitions for this season and will have targeted this fixture for a 5-point haul. Chinnor bested Caldy in an emphatic 28-36 five point victory at Paton Field back in November 2025 with powerful Georgian loose head prop Ramaz Rukhadze opening the try scoring for Chinnor and former Bath and Ealing Trailfinders number 10 bagging an 11-point haul. This powerful performance by Chinnor was acknowledged by Ravers’ supporters who considered Chinnor to be the best side to have visited Paton Field in the 2025/26 season
Caldy has yet to win against the Thame side since their promotion to level 2 and Head Coach Matt Cairns has no illusions of the size of tomorrow’s task. “Chinnor are very well coached and consistently do the simple things brilliantly, which is the hallmark of all top sides. We will have to match them physically and be pretty much error free if we are to get anything out of the game”
Two of Caldy’s Welsh contingent Dan Owen and Jordan Jones are involved in lambing and other seasonal farming duties and accordingly are not available for the Ravers this weekend. However, to maintain the Ravers’ IQ levels Cairns has been able to draft in two other Welshmen into the match day squad. 19-year-old former Anselmian Dylan Hodkinson starts his second game for Caldy, and debutant backrower Huw Davies will enter the fray from the bench.

Caldy’s Head Coach Matt Cairns has picked the following squad for tomorrow’s away fixture against Chinnor at the Rectory Pavilion, Kingsey Road.
