Caldy – That Friday Feeling Boxing Day 2025

As the 2025 calendar comes to an end Caldy are looking to rekindle their start to the season. A run of losses has seen the Wirral side drift towards the bottom of the table and Head Coach Matt Cairns emphasized the importance of Saturday’s home game against Ampthill. “This is a hugely important match, we need points. Performances have been good in patches, but we have little to show in way of points, so we need to start accumulating !”

Although there are only 3 league points separating 9th placed Ampthill and 11th placed Caldy there is a real contrast between the recent form of the visiting ’Mob’ and that of the Ravers. The Mob have won their last three games impressively whilst the Ravers have not picked up any league points in any of their last 6 Champ fixtures despite leading in many of them.

Historically Ampthill’s DNA has been very similar to Caldy’s, but they now have transitioned to a different playing model with a significant contingent of Saracens players reinforcing their squad depth. An 11 to 4 winning advantage for Ampthill in the last 15 contests between the sides demonstrates just how difficult a fixture this is to navigate for the Ravers.

Caldy trained so well on Tuesday 23rd December that a compassionate Matt Cairns gave the squad Thursday night off and he exhorted the Wirral public to get behind the Caldy squad in this hugely important fixture. “Our home crowd is massive for us and really lifts the lads particularly in key moments. We will need every voice and shout of encouragement behind us tomorrow to help to make the difference between winning and losing”

The gates will be open from 11.00 am.
