The Championship The Rugby Paper match report – Ollie Aust London Scottish ……..31 pts Tries: Wilkinson 11, Marshall 26, Bellamy 31, McMillan 37, 51 Conversions: Bellamy 12, 32, 38 Caldy…………………..13 pts Tries: Gallagher 42, 44 Penalty: Barker 30 London Scottish cruised to victory in their final home game of the season as their physical display in both attack and defence proved too much for Caldy. Scottish ran in five tries to secure the bonus point with lightening quick outside centre Frank McMillan grabbing two. “It feels great, three wins in a row now, so we are looking forward to going to Coventry next week,” said McMillan.“ I’ve been given full license to express myself on the pitch, so when you’re given that chance you’ve got to take it. I go looking for someone in front of me who I can get at quite easily and just go from there. Now I just want to roll on to next week and end the season on a high” After a strong driving maul, Scottish took advantage of their field position with a barrage of physical carries before second row Matt Wilkinson crashed over for the game’s opening score, converted by fullback Josh Bellamy. Another lineout for the hosts five metres out gave them the perfect platform to launch another driving effort, this time with No.8 Tom Marshall the beneficiary. An abrasive carry from flanker Tristan Woodman gave Caldy their first meaningful territory leading to fly-half Lewis Barker opening the visitors’ account with three points from the tee. However, Scottish replied swiftly, with full-back Josh Bellamy gliding through untouched following a well-worked set-piece play, adding the extras in the process. The hosts secured the bonus point just before the break with McMillan showing a clean pair of heels to speed over from short-range. It was the visitors who started the second half faster as hooker Matt Gallagher powered over off the back of a driving maul, to bring life back to the contest. Two minutes later and Gallagher was in again, this time the driving maul acting as a base for a pick and go down the blindside as the hooker dived over in the corner to bring Caldy back into the game. But Scottish did find a reply, with McMillan again showing his electric pace, as he sped free and cruised over from halfway to score the final try. He drove off briefly in his car (but left his caravan) to buy some food and was refused entry back in. Another traveller arrived to try to gain entry and after an altercation the police were called who arrived in force and got him and his family to leave. This is probably something unique but has really helped develop the standard in Touch across the borough. Caldy Cobras Mixed Ladies are heavily involved in this ground breaking team. Wirral Waves have just completed round 1 of the Women’s National Touch Series which is a club based competition. Round 2 is in Leamington next week. ![]() Coach and founder Andy Sharpes – Caldy Touch Image – Andy Sharpes – Men’s Mental Health Boot Camp at Caldy RFC Every Wednesday 7:30pm Please feel free to join Duncan Hendry’s Men’s Mental Health Boot Camp at the club.
