Within three minutes Worcester levelled, centre Tom Gilbert-Hendrickson powered 30m down the middle and the recycled ball went right for winger Josh Bassett to score. A two-on-one down the left led to Ravers winger Will Robinson chipping the ball over Will Trewin before collecting and sliding between the sticks in the 12th minute, but then it was crunch time for Caldy. A high tackle led to Worcester kicking to touch and the lineout rumbled over with Ndimande splintering over. The 25-year-old scored again minutes later, cutting inside and handing off two defenders to muscle over. With Caldy down to 14 men after prop Ryan Higginson’s illegal obstruction, Tim Anstee dotted down for Worcester’s bonus-point try. Hooker Austin Wallis scored from another Worcester maul before Caldy lock Sam Olyott duck and dived over. It was back-and-forth, lock James Tyas bundled over before Will Lane set up Jake Garside to score with James Short running in from a basketball offload. Caldy fought back, with Ollie Hearn scoring twice from mauls to earn a consolation bonus point. Caldy coach Matt Cairns said: “Our lads very rarely give up. We talked before about coming away with a least a point. We scored five tries to earn that. Our set-pieces worked well and when we did break into Worcester’s 22 we were accurate. This is one of the biggest scores Worcester have conceded at Sixways so we’ve got to look at that as a real positive in a tough run of fixtures for us.” ![]() ![]() ![]() All images thanks to OneBall Creative Worcester Warriors : Trewin, Garside, Gilbert-Hendrickson (Short 55), Taylor, Bassett (Zheng 40), Reed, Lane (Brown 65); Smyth (Haynes 65), Wallis (Vanes 47), Balmain (Hoyt 55), Chapman (Tyas 47), Nkwocha (Joussain 55), Anstee, Ndimande, Kvesic (c) Caldy : Hyde, Tudor (Carroll 65), C Wilkinson, Barlow, Robinson, K Wilkinson (Barker 65), Wynn (Akehurst 62); Weatherby (Rabbette 65), Gallagher (Hearn 60), Higginson (Rushton 47), Loboda (Sproston 60), Olyott, Ridgway, Owen (Rushton 32-40; Jones 62,), Dickinson (c) Referee : Sara Cox Attendance : 5,600 ![]() ![]() Stats & images thanks to Champ Rugby Oval Insights – Saturday 21st February – NOWIRUL Premier League Caldy 2nd xv …………………………. 58 pts Fylde Hawks 2nd xv ………………… 7 pts Caldy Tries : Brown, Elkerton x 2, Kilcourse x 2, Hardisty, Wiggins, McGrath, Manuel, Conversions : Rabbette x 4, Clarke Penalty : Rabbette Horrendous weather at Paton Field, with rain hammering down and making handling a nightmare. Fylde adapted quickest, controlled the set piece and took a deserved 0–7 lead. But once Caldy settled, everything changed. As Barry Quatermass put it, the lads “learned how to catch the wet ball without knocking on and ran riot.” From that moment on it was all Caldy — relentless pressure, huge work rate, and try after try as the boys powered to a dominant 58–7 win. A brilliant performance in brutal conditions. Well done lads — outstanding effort across the park. Caldy’s 2nd xv extend their lead in the Premier League by 3 points and with a game in hand over Preston Grasshoppers 2nd xv. Played 14, won 14 in the league and continue their unbeaten run in all competitions from April 2019 ! Next up is Sedgley Park 2nd xv on Saturday 28th February. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Report and all images thanks to Barry MacDonald – Sunday 22nd February – Halbro NW Senior Colts League A Caldy u18s …………………….. 73 pts Newport Salop u18s ……….. 28 pts Match report thanks to Paul Clark The Senior Colts returned to winning ways on Sunday with a high scoring victory over Newport Salop, running in 11 tries in a 73-28 comprehensive victory ! After defeat the previous week, the focus was to win the battle of the breakdown and ensure we cleared out every ruck no matter what number you had on your back. The intensity was good from the off, with the forwards bringing their power to the fore and using the rolling maul to good effect. An early try from hooker Joe Murphy was cancelled as Newport hit back through an incisive centre move. 7-7. Both teams jostled for position until the Caldy broke away towards half time, scoring 4 tries in the quick succession. 33-7 at half time – good work. We asked the lads to maintain the intensity for the second half and finish in good fashion. The lads duly delivered a further 6 tries in the second half, despite conceding the near obligatory interception try (the 4th against us this season ! ). The lads profited from sticking to the game plan, moving through our process and being physically dominant at the breakdown. The final whistle blew just after the most celebrated try of the day as Luka Mulhall kicked through to score his first try for the club ! All in all, 11 tries, 9 different try scorers and 9 conversions. A good day at Paton Field leaving us 3rd in the North West League A table with 4 games to play. ![]() ![]() ![]() All images thanks to Barry MacDonald – Rugby coming up ![]() Saturday 28th February – Champ Rugby round 19 Caldy v Bedford Blues kick off 2.00 pm at Paton Field Match Tickets are available to buy here : https://caldyrugbyclub.com/buy-tickets-membership/ Hospitality details & bookings please contact Kenzie email : [email protected] Saturday 28th February – NOWIRUL Premier League Caldy 2nd xv v Sedgley Park 2nd xv kick off 1.00 pm tbc at University of Liverpool Wyncote Sports Ground, Mather Avenue, Liverpool L18 6HF Sunday 1st March – Halbro NW Senior Colts League A Stockport u18s v Caldy u18s kick off 2.00 pm at Headlands Road, Bramhall SK7 3AN Sunday 1st March – Halbro NW Junior Colts League A Caldy u17s v Stockport u17s kick off 12.30 pm at Paton Field – Saturday 7th March – NOWIRUL Div 3 West Caldy 3rd xv v Port Sunlight kick off 2.00 pm at Paton Field – Saturday 14th March – NOWIRUL Premier League Caldy 2nd xv v Macclesfield 2nd xv kick off 2.00 pm at Paton Field – Saturday 21st March – Champ Rugby round 20 Chinnor v Caldy kick off 2.00 pm at Kingsey Road Saturday 21st March – NOWIRUL Premier League Caldy 2nd xv v Sale FC 2nd xv kick off 2.00 pm at Paton Field Saturday 21st March – NOWIRUL Div 3 West Birchfield v Caldy 3rd xv kick off 2.00 pm at Wilmere Lane, Widnes WA8 5UP – Saturday 28th March – Champ Rugby round 21 Caldy v Ealing Trailfinders kick off 2.00 pm at Paton Field Match Tickets are available to buy here : https://caldyrugbyclub.com/buy-tickets-membership/ Hospitality details & bookings please contact Kenzie email : [email protected] Saturday 28th March – NOWIRUL Div 3 West Caldy 3rd xv v Sefton 2nd xv kick off 2.00 pm at Paton Field – |
