A message to everyone associated with Caldy Rugby Club from our DOR Gareth Davies following an incident at the conclusion of the Chinnor game yesterday
There is no place for referee abuse at Caldy Rugby Club.
We are a rugby club. We understand passion, frustration and the competitive nature of the game. We also understand that referees will make decisions we don’t agree with.
What we will not accept is abuse, intimidation, threats, personal insults or aggressive behaviour towards match officials — from players, coaches, parents, members or supporters.
Let’s be absolutely clear: disagreeing with a decision is not an excuse to abuse a referee.
Referees give their time so that our teams can play. Without them, there is no match. They should be treated with the same respect that we expect for our players, coaches and volunteers.
From this point forward, the club takes a zero-tolerance approach to referee abuse.
Anyone representing or supporting Caldy RUFC who crosses the line can expect their behaviour to be addressed. This may include disciplinary action by the club and, where appropriate, reporting the incident to the relevant governing body.
We will not allow the actions of one individual to damage the reputation of our players, our teams or our club.
To our players: play hard, compete fiercely and challenge yourself — but respect the referee.
To our coaches: set the standard and lead by example.
To our parents and supporters: get behind the team, create a positive atmosphere and remember that your behaviour matters.
To everyone associated with the club: if you cannot respect the referee, you are not representing this club in the way we expect.
We want Caldy RFC to be known for competitive rugby, strong teams, great sportsmanship and a welcoming environment.
Passion is part of rugby. Abuse isn’t.
Respect the referee. Respect the game. Respect our club.
