Caldy …………………………. 14 pts

Tenacious defence saw London Scottish finish the regular season with a win against Caldy ahead of next weekend’s relegation play-off against Richmond.
Scottish head coach Joe Gray was pleased with the result, especially after several injury disruptions. “We had lots of chopping and changing to make a team including a six in at centre and a nine on the wing,” he said. “So to fight and get a win against a very good Caldy side is great. I’m proud of the boys, it’s great momentum and what we needed heading into next week.”
Caldy struck first, not a minute in, as the ball went out to fly-half Lewis Barker who dummied and broke the line, streaking up the pitch before squaring the pass to Reuben Logan who bumped the covering defender and scored under the posts. Barker converted.
The exiles came back as Vereimi Qorowale sniped round the fringes of the ruck and linked with Dan Nutton, and Oli Duncan to scored his first of the day, converted by Fraser Honey.
Each team went close but were denied on the tryline but consecutive Caldy penalties at the start of the second half platformed Scottish into a scoring position and after five short phases Duncan got his second.
Shortly after, a fumble from a pass out the back for Caldy was picked up by Theo Pavey who sprinted the length of the field for Scottish’s third, converted by Honey.
A brilliant break by Caldy’s Will Robinson and the imminent try was denied by equally brilliant scrambling defence by Will Talbot-Davies. But Caldy’s 10m rumbling maul took their second try, scored by Matt Gallagher and converted by Kieran Wilkinson, brought it to a one-score game.
Friendly fire between Stephen Kerins and Honey saw Honey stretchered off with a head injury, deepening Scottish’s injury crisis ahead of the play-off.
With Caldy pressing in the final minutes, three key jackel penalties from Lewis Barrett, Tom Marshall and Murray Bellis were decisive for the home side. A performance of grit.
Caldy head coach Matt Cairns said: “It wasn’t our best performance of the season. The past few weeks have been difficult because we’ve known we’re safe and looking towards the summer. Scottish put up a good fight and probably deserved to win the game.”
