The Championship Wirral Globe match report – John Mallon Caldy……………………… 10pts Hartpury……………………41pts Caldy lost their latest Championship home match 10-41 against Hartpury. The game was fast paced and it was the visitors who made the better of the start scoring after two minutes through a try from Harry Short. Caldy were unable to get into any rhythm in the opening quarter and a second try for the visitors gave them a 17-0 advantage. Caldy then took control of the game from then on and scored their first of the afternoon through Monty Weatherby with a rare try. With Caldy’s tails up they scored a second not long after on the stroke of half time through a try from Dom Hanson after some great play and speed from Will Robinson down the wing. Into the second half and the visitors started at a fast pace once again and scored a penalty four minutes after the restart to re-establish a ten point gap. Then the game got a bit scrappy with neither side able to break each other down. In the last quarter of the game Hartpury really showed their class scoring a further three tries through Sam Lewis, Will Jeanes and Aristot Benz Salomon to gain the bonus point and send the small amount of travelling fans home happy. After the match the Caldy fans, although disappointed, were optimistic about the future particularly looking at the games coming up and going into next season with a number of youngsters breaking through into the first team. The next match for the Ravers is their longest away trip of the season when they make the 500 mile round trip to Cornish Pirates. ![]() ![]() ![]() Images – Barry Macdonald – u16s Girls Caldy ……………42pts Moore ……………10pts Match report – Chris Green Caldy U16 girls took to Paton Field to face Moore Girls for their final game of the season and first outing on the first team pitch which on a glorious day was a special moment for them. Moore had given us a pasting earlier in the season so there was a bit of apprehension ahead of the game, however, work on the training ground on our rucking in particular, and knowing we can cause teams problems when we get the ball wide gave cause for optimism. And so it proved. A opening try from winger Daisy Cooper-Kelly from inside her own half was followed by two more to complete her hat-trick in the first 10-15 minutes which settled the nerves and the girls grew in confidence. That said, Moore quicky replied with a couple of well worked tries of their own and it took four or five try saving tackles to stop them from scoring more. A tightly contested first half concluded with Caldy narrowly ahead at 15-10. ![]() Daisy Cooper-Kelly on the way to her hat trick ![]() Alicia winning the line out ![]() Half time team talk Images – Darren Buckley The second half was a different story though and Caldy began to dominate up front. Our forwards repeatedly began winning the counter ruck giving us lots of possession which resulted in scores through Rebecca Miller and Alicia Parker. Emily Green added a couple of trademark wingers tries before her kick chase won the ball back allowing Taz McPherson to take off on a strong and mazy run to go over from about 30 metres out. ![]() Rebecca Miller on the move ![]() Emily Green kicks at goal Images – Darren Buckley In the end, Caldy ran out deserved winners at 42-10 – credit to Moore for battling to the very end of the game and what was a hard fought and entertaining game. Player of the match: A very tough one to call given there were so many great performances across the team. Wingers Daisy Cooper-Kelly for her hat trick which gave the team confidence and something to build on, and Rebecca Miller’s hard work on and off the ball particularly with some try saving tackles are worthy joint winners. Special mention for Lucy Allen playing only her second game who was superb ! – Rugby coming up next Saturday : Caldy 1st xv away Saturday 19th April The Championship Cornish Pirates v Caldy – Caldy Rugby Club – End of Season Ball |
