NOWIRUL Bathtime Premier League

Caldy 2nd xv …….. 83pts
Tries: Chandigere x 2, Pickering x 2, Carroll x 3, Hyde x 4, Mitchell
Conversions: Rabbette x 10, Penalty Rabbette

Rochdale 2nd xv ………………..10pts

Caldy 2nd xv continued their winning streak with 19 out of 19 in the league this season & maintained their lead of 27 points clear at the top above second placed Fylde Hawks 2nd xv who were awarded a home walkover from Wirral 2nd xv.
Despite the final score by all accounts the game was no walkover. Rochdale’s forwards put Caldy under pressure, their no. 9 / no. 10 combined well plus some great kicking from no. 10. But ultimately Rochdale could not handle the pace of the game dictated by Caldy who were relentless in their efforts as a team. Caldy’s forwards powered over the line & Caldy’s backs kicked / chased numerous times to run in 12 tries before the final whistle.

Caldy 2nd xv’s unbeaten run has now been nearly 6 seasons – they last lost a game in April 2019 !
There had been some confusion as to how many games they have played over that period of time – I had thought 112 ? but according to our “statto” club archivist Roger Flashman it’s now 119 games unbeaten in all competitions !

Caldy 33 – 38 Crosby St Mary’s

Match report – Steve Bishop
Crosby St Mary’s made the trip to Paton Field from Hightown last Saturday. On the back of a big win against Port Sunlight their tails were up. Not the fittest of sides but with two proper snipers at nine and ten. Caldy had cobbled a side together for this visit. We had a Junior Colts centre filling in at ten. We had dragged a couple of old faces out of retirement. At one point we had a prop on the wing.
In truth, the game should have been done and dusted by half time, but the Rav3rs insistence on trying to off load instead of trusting the ruck cost us dearly, with Saints intercepting twice to stay in touch. We then lost Luke Denn to a hamstring tear and Connor to a back injury.
We stuck at it second half, but once again coughed up cheap ball. When the win looked likely, yet another interception put Saints 5 up with minutes to go. Caldy then got over the try line to attempt to go level but were inexplicably held up. A lesson in just making sure was to be had there. Five points and the chance to kick for the win went begging.
In hindsight though, let’s remember what this team is about.
To bring on young players – tick.
To keep the old and bold involved – tick.
Special mentions go to
Rob Waring for covering at ten. Well done young man.
Nath Gardner for his Senior debut.
Duncan Hendry for his sticky finger line out catching master class AND playing the full 80.
Well done all.
Three games – all at home – and a semi-final to go.
Let’s finish the season in style. COYR.
