Message from Gareth Davies, Director of Rugby
“To everyone associated with Caldy Rugby Club I just wanted to send a short message and hope you all had a great Christmas with your families and I wish you all the best for 2025.
Many thanks to all of our fantastic sponsors, supporters, coaches, clubhouse staff, players, managers, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
I’ve had some time to reflect on this past year and despite the early season results in the Championship we’ve have had another hugely successful year at Caldy Rugby Club.
Our minis and juniors are thriving in what are tough times for rugby in general and all of the different age groups have great numbers which is something I am immensely proud of and thanks to all of those involved in making this happen.
We now have a rapidly growing Girls section with great thanks to Chris Green and Rowland Woolford for persisting in this endeavour along with various other coaches within the club and producing some fine rugby players who have been acknowledged with county and national recognition. I am sure we will reap the rewards in the coming years as a club.
We have a new 3rd XV who sit top of the league at Christmas thanks to Liam, Mark, Bish and Dave and our 2nd XV are also sitting proudly at the top of the 2nd XV Premier League. We face some challenges going forward especially with the 2nd XV but we will deal with this head on as we have done any other bumps in the road that have come before this.
Despite the results in the Championship we have been able to blood numerous new prospects who I have no doubt will form the basis of our senior squad for years to come. We have shown in recent weeks just what a proud and talented rugby club we are and the results have clearly started to improve and great thanks goes to our relentless supporters who come wind, rain or shine. The crowd in the win over London Scottish prior to Christmas were sensational and I hope that you all enjoyed a great performance by the lads. Long may your support continue as it means so much to the players and staff and gives them that extra boost when times are hard in games. In my opinion there is no better place to be than at Paton Field when the bank is full.
So good luck to all of you and I look forward to seeing you all at some stage during 2025.”
