Caldy – That Friday Feeling 24th January ’25
As the Championship moves into the second half of its season the Ravers will be keen to string together a better set of results in the next 11 Championship fixtures compared to the first half. Unfortunately, Caldy’s recent momentum, with two wins over London Scottish and Nottingham bookending a precious away losing bonus point against table topping Ealing could come to a juddering halt after Saturday. Caldy’s hugely important trip to Cambridge is the last Championship fixture for two months !
Caldy’s Head Coach Matt Cairns ruefully explained this frustration. “In the last two years we have come into some decent form at this time of year. The two-month break to accommodate the Championship / Premiership cup comes at the wrong time for us and stifles our momentum. Accordingly, there is no hiding away from the fact that tomorrow’s match against Cambridge is really important from a league perspective.”
Caldy’s squad for tomorrow’s fixture contains no less than four players who have stepped up from the 2nd xv having initially arrived at Caldy through the club’s very successful partnership with Liverpool University. Matt Rabbette, Freddie Stevenson, and Charlie Hyde have all previously experienced 1st xv action but for back rower Callum Butler it will be his debut.
Matt Cairns has selected the following squad for tomorrow’s crucial Championship away fixture at Ellgia Fields, against Cambridge RFC which kicks off at 2.00 pm.
- M Weatherby
- O Hearn
- N Rushton
- T Sanders
- F Stevenson
- C Ridgway
- T Parry
- JJ Dickinson
- O Wynn
- L Barker
- W Robinson
- M Barlow
- C Wilkinson
- N Royle
- M Kilcourse
- M Gallagher
- M Rabbette
- S Olyott
- C Butler
- J Murray
- C Hyde
- J Mitchell
- R Higginson
