Caldy 1st xv result – Caldy 19 – 43 Doncaster Knights
Match report – Luke Jarmyn, The Rugby Paper

Caldy ……………… 19pts
Tries: Robinson 8, Gallagher 18, Hearn 76,
Conversions: B Jones 9, Kilcourse 77

Doncaster …….. 43pts
Tries: Strong 13, Kerr 36, Currie 50, J Olowofela 56, Rokoduguni 60, Bunting 71,
Conversions: Dolly 14, 37, 51, 57, 61
Penalty: Dolly 43

Scrum-half Alex Dolly was Doncaster’s star man pulling the strings superbly and didn’t miss from the tee as the Yorkshire side kept their hopes of making the cup quarter-finals alive.
Alongside Dolly’s 13 points, Knights scored four tries in a dominant second-half, adding to two in the first to secure their first ever Premiership Cup away win.
Australian Dolly said: “It was a super professional performance from us. We played for territory in the first half, managed the wind well and then in the second pinned Caldy in the corners and took advantage of the slope.”

Match action .
With swirling 40mph winds, Caldy looked more comfortable early on. Two phases from a lineout fly-half Sam Rogers put wing Will Robinson through a gap and run in from 30m.

Doncaster stole a Caldy defensive lineout before No.8 Morgan Strong spun around blindside Sam Olyott to score by the left post. The visitors were pinged six times in the first 18 minutes and it proved costly as Caldy had successive lineouts in the right corner before hooker Matt Gallagher split off a driving maul to muscle over.

Knights began to dominant possession and from a lineout 30 metres out, they moved the ball cross-field left to right before inside centre Zach Kerr cascaded right to left to dot down. Dolly’s conversion gave Knights a half-time advantage and with the wind and slope in their favour, Doncaster scored 29 unanswered points.A Caldy ruck infringement saw Dolly’s 22-metre penalty kick sail over, and after Caldy’s Monty Weatherby saw yellow for defending in an offside position, Edinburgh-loanee Tom Currie burrowed over from close range. Knights capitalised on the man advantage, and wing Maliq Holden set-up Jordan Olowofela to slide over. Caldy had just returned to full compliment when Donny worked wide from a lineout and fly-half Morgan Bunting set up wing Semesa Rokodugini to dash over on the right.

Dan Rabbette earned Caldy’s second yellow for a ball slap before Oli Fox’s inch-perfect grubber put Bunting in at the corner. Caldy hooker Oli Hearn scored a late consolation. Caldy coach Matt Cairns said: “Doncaster are a good team and showed their qualities. We made some defensive system errors which is disappointing.”

 Caldy 3rd xv result – Caldy Rav3rs 17 – 7 Newton-le-Willows
Match report – Steve Bishop
“After a week of relentless mithering by Liam, we eventually mustered the numbers to travel across to Crosby St Mary. The weather conditions weren’t great, but their pitch was in remarkably good condition and we were good to go. At kick off we were already down to a bare 15. An argument ensued between Steve Bish and David Arthur as to who would be sub. David hurriedly grabbed a flag, Mark Wilson just walked off shaking his head so the decision was made. Steve Bish broke the good news to Isaac the physio. Today he had two jobs; his own and being sub. Delegation before embarrassment.

The first half was a scrappy affair. Mainly in the St Mary’s 22 with them playing on the counter. The first of which was scored and converted. 7-0. Then followed a period of constant Caldy pressure, but an awful lot of poor decision making and handling errors. Eventually, Max Fletcher forced over and we’re back in it with Freddie Arista’s conversion. 7-7 half time.

We chatted at the break about being more calm. Slow the play if we need to. Run our drills. Don’t offload unless it’s a clear pass. Trust the ruck.
Second half was all Caldy. Despite turning down 3 points then missing touch, we regrouped and went again. Felix Clarke, who kicked brilliantly from hand all day, put us back on their 5m line. Orson rose highest as he’d done all match. We set, went through a couple of phases and Johnson Chandigere, back from a long injury period, went over from close range. Freddie added the 2. 7-14.
It wasn’t long before Caldy extended the lead. After a few minutes of St Mary’s pressure and a harsh yellow for Connor Lloyd-Jones for a deliberate knock down, Lucas Wiggins found a gap on halfway. He was off down the field with a few lacklustre tackles brushed off and under the posts. Freddie took another 2. 7-21. That’s how it ended.

We must however, mention the move of the match. From an uncontested scrum, Caldy pulled the St Mary’s defence left, then right, then left again. Some beautiful handling and line running. Some lovely tips and setting from the rucks. We’d earned the right to go wide – and we did. With pace we spun the ball wide right. Tacklers drawn, overlap earned. The last man was Johno. The hooker had stayed on the wing. We don’t know why – but he had. Freddie drew the last man and gave Johno a peach of a pass. Perfect. Then Johno did exactly what we’d expect of a seasoned winger at this level. He dropped it. Welcome back Johno. Other than this…….. We have a break next weekend, then we welcome a tough test as Ruskin Park come to Paton Field on December 7th. Next job Rav3rs.”
