Chinnor up the tempo to break their home duck by John Vaughan for The RUGBY Paper Chinnor overcame a resilient Caldy with a Morgan Passman try in the last play of the game clinching a deserved victory. The game was very much in the balance as Caldy came back from a seemingly lost position after Chinnor had missed a simple penalty in front of the post to go three scores clear. Caldy launched a counter attack and came within a score but Chinnor upped the tempo and sealed a famous win in their first ever Championship game at home. In front of a huge crowd Chinnor started with a bang. A superb break from William Feeney gave them an attacking position which Robin Hardwick made the most of with an athletic pick up and score. Caldy struck back after a series of penalties they kicked to the corner and a powerful driving maul saw the referee award a penalty try and yellow card for Harry Dugmore. Chinnor took the setback in their stride and immediately went in the offensive. Looking to up the tempo at all times and keep the ball in hand Chinnor increased their lead when Hardwick went over for his brace on 23 minutes. Feeney unleashed a huge 50/22 from the kick off and from a superb lineout move the elusive Kieran Goss beat several defenders and offloaded to the ever present Isaiah Wharton who plunged over. Chinnor attacked from deep in the last minute of the first half and after a searing break from Connor Slevin linked with Harry Dugmore and Kieran Curran who released Goss to score in the corner. Caldy started the second half with the wind but excellent Chinnor defence denied them a foothold to get back in the match. A frustrating series of penalties from both sides took the impetus out of the game for large parts of the second half until the five five minutes of the thrilling denouement. A trademark silky break from Nick Smith who released Hughes on a charge to the line, desperate defence from Caldy saw the dangerous Scotsman denied by inches. Future Ravers Senior Colts result – Caldy 19 – 13 Wirral Gulls On a windy afternoon Caldy Senior Colts hosted Wirral Gulls in a hotly anticipated local derby. Earlier our Junior Colts had been handed a walkover victory so several players joined the Senior Colts squad. From the off the level of physicality and commitment shown by both teams was tremendous. Wirral Gulls opened the score with a simple penalty and not long after scored a converted try. Another penalty took the score to 0-13. However, Caldy’s valiant efforts in attack were rewarded before half time after some powerful forwards’ play led to a try for Matti Sangare. |

The second half continued to be highly competitive but Caldy continued to play good rugby with some excellent play leading to a converted try, scored by Rob Waring & converted by Felix Clarke which gave the team increased belief.
Having defended staunchly and pinned Wirral Gulls deep in their 22, Rob Waring charged down a Wirral Gulls clearing kick and he was able to scoop up the ball to score. Felix Clarke converted.
With the score 19-13 Caldy and minutes to go Wirral Gulls threw everything at the Caldy defensive line. Caldy stood firm and saw the game out for a well deserved win over our local rivals.
