2nd xv result – Sedgley Park 15 – 52 Caldy

Caldy 2nd xv’s first away league fixture at Park Lane against an always formidable Sedgley Park side was as tough a fixture as expected. The Ravers won through in an expansive game with stand out performances from stand off Dan Rabbette, Callum Butler at openside and Jacob Mitchell at full back.

However, despite their second bonus point win Caldy sit in third position in the table which is headed by Chester and Fylde courtesy of their superior points difference. The first two round of the Halbro Premier League has 4 sides on maximum points with Preston Grasshoppers also with maximum points. Big wins also for Lymm and Rossendale in Round 2 suggests that Caldy won’t have it all their own way in the 2024/25 season.

Caldy 2nd xv next game – HOME at Paton Field
Saturday 21st September – Caldy v Manchester

3rd xv result – Caldy 38 – 33 Port Sunlight

On Saturday, Caldy Rav3rs had their first league run out at Paton Field. The lads dug deep and overcame an 8 point deficit to win 38-33, against a strong and well drilled Port Sunlight team.

Saturday’s squad contained only 9 players who took the field against Capenhurst a week ago, a brilliant blend of youth and experience. More importantly we had two sets of brothers grace Paton Field together. Jack and Harry Wilson led the charge in the forwards, while Cary and Stuart Wellington added pace out wide on the wings.

It was a close game, with Port Sunlight capitalising on Caldy’s mistakes. Their 10 played the conditions brilliantly in the 1st half to keep us pinned in our own half and was terrific kicking from the tee. When we built a handful of phases together and kicked into 3rd gear, we looked unstoppable, with some brilliantly worked tries.

Tries scored by Jack Wilson x 3, Big John, Oli Lea and Stuart Wellington, with Felix Clarke kicking 4/6 conversions.

The Rav3rs main objective is to retain our young players and transition them into adult rugby, feeding our brilliant 2nd XV and hopefully 1st XV.

The future of Caldy RFC looks extremely bright with so many talented youngsters, supported by gritty OAPs.
