That Friday Feeling – 4th November 2022

A weekend of top level rugby is in store for Caldy supporters starting this evening with a crucial clash in the Cotton Traders Premier League at Chester’s Hare Lane ground between top of the table Chester 2nd xv and  Caldy’s 2nd xv.

In recent week’s Caldy’s 2nd xv have suffered from cancellations by opposition sides and they will be very keen to resume their season against what will be a hugely competitive Chester side. The game kicks off at Hare Lane at 7.30 pm tonight and coaches Andrew Soutar and Christian Jones will be hopeful of a strong Caldy support for this important game.

Tomorrow the 1st xv face old friends Ampthill in the first round of the Championship Cup.. A fortnight ago Ampthill and Caldy played a highly competitive match in round 6 of the Championship at the picturesque Dillingham Park. The close match was won by the home side and Caldy will be looking to turn the tables on Ampthill in tomorrow’s cup clash.

Head Coach Matt Cairns has selected the following 23 Man squad for tomorrow’s game which kicks off at 2 pm at Paton Field

Paton Field is becoming something of a go to destination for overseas football supporters looking for something different to the same old Anfield or Old Trafford experience.

Back in September a group of football supporters from Denmark so enjoyed their day at Paton Field that they set up a Caldy Supporters club in Kastrup which is near Copenhagen. Last Saturday Mathias Krebs and 9 of his colleagues returned to Paton Field for the match against Coventry and to present Caldy’s President Graham Armitage with a signed shirt from their football team Kastrup Boldklub.

It didn’t end there. A group of German football supporters from Bernburg north of Leipzig travelled to the UK to watch Manchester United’s Europa League game against Sheriff. Having enjoyed everything that Old Trafford offered on Thursday evening Michael, Oliver, Thomas and Soren just needed something a little more satisfying. Having done their research on the best sporting venues in the North West of England they travelled expectantly by train to Paton Field. They were not disappointed.

Spending most of their time at Jan’s scoreboard bar they fell into the company of Jon Bagley, Rob Rayner, John Wylie and Phil Wylie and after nightfall they retreated to the comfort of the open fire in the clubhouse. They were enthused by their first ever game of rugby and the brilliant hospitality from Jon Bagley and Caldy RFC.

Oliver was lavish in his praise of the game and Caldy RFC “Rugby is a real man’s sport. This was my first ever attendance at a game of rugby and may be my last as nothing could ever be better than this.”

Tim Kilpatrick’s message to Community Rugby

Calling all Caldy RFC Community members – Minis, Juniors, Girls, Colts, Women & Touch rugby – we need your support this Saturday!

Please purchase discounted tickets online in advance or use your complimentary season ticket to boost our Caldy 1st XV Championship Cup attendance.

Everyone is welcome to come along to Paton Field on Saturday & help us raise the roof on Senior Rugby match days.

A big thank you to our u14 Juniors coaches, parents & players for volunteering to help this Saturday with the gate, parking & raffle – much appreciated.

We are actively recruiting new u14s players this season & thanks to the enthusiasm of our coaches, we have already attracted several new players. More players are needed to build up the squad for the future, so please encourage any potential new players to come along & give us a try!

Congratulations to our Caldy Junior Colts, who won again last Sunday 41-17. They are now top League A & are having a well earned rest this Sunday.

Good luck to our Caldy Senior Colts away this Sunday at Warrington & also to all our players who have been selected for the Cheshire u18s training squad.

Wishing all Caldy Community Rugby players, coaches, parents & supporters a fun rugby weekend!
