RFU 150th Centenary Walk

Gents

I believe that most of you will be aware that to recognise the 150th anniversary of the formation of the RFU, the President, his honour Judge Jeff Blackett, together with his wife Sally are embarking on Saturday on a walk through most of the Counties, visiting clubs and talking to members, with the additional ambition of raising funds for the Injured Players Foundation.

The Cheshire leg of the tour will be on Monday 1st November, and the route chosen is to start at Caldy RFC, home of the Cheshire President and Council Member. From there the walk will pass over Caldy Hill, past the Ring o’ Bells and Ashton Park to West Kirby. Along the Prom towards Hoylake, passing over Royal Liverpool Golf Club onto Meols Drive and onward to Hoylake RFC.

From Hoylake back to the prom and along the coast, passing Leasowe Light House to New Brighton RFC, and finally back along the prom, finishing at Wallasey RFC

I will meet Jeff at Wallasey RFC at 9.45 and transport him to Caldy for 10am. From there the timings would or more accurately could be as follows:-

Leave Caldy at 10.30am arriving Hoylake about 11.45am

Leave Hoylake at 12.30am arriving New Brighton about 1.30pm

Leave New Brighton at 2.15 pm arriving Wallasey at about 2.45pm

Jeff will then look to depart at 3.30pm for his drive to Gloucestershire

All dependent not just on how quick he walks, but whether we can keep up with him..

What I would like to ask is that each club lays on a meet and greet for him with some refreshment, At Hoylake and NB I would suggest simple liquid options, with perhaps a bacon option at Caldy and some sandwiches at Wallasey.

If clubs could also make a small donation to his fund, say £25-£50, along with the County’s contribution and some other Cheshire Clubs/members contribution hopefully we can send him on his way a happy man with fond memories of Cheshire Rugby. I list below his fund’s details

I do hope you can support this event and help Jeff raise much needed funds to help those who have suffered catastrophic injuries playing our game, and in so doing allow me to end my RFU journey with a positive outcome

If you could please confirm that you are happy to contribute to the arrangements I would be grateful, if you require any more detail don’t hesitate to ask

Yours in rugby

David Ewing
