Mike Newby

It with great sadness that I have to let members know of the death of one of our past players. Mike Newby or “Newbs” as we all knew him, joined the club in the early 1970’s from Newbold On Avon. He quickly became a “big” past of the 1st XV where he played 2nd Row. He was an amiable person off the field but a hard man off, equally dangerous to both the opposition aand his own side as Graham Armitage an testify when “Newbs” knocked both his front teeth out!!

Mikw was always ready to enjoy the “Off field” banter and was a great tourist. Not a lot of people know this but Mike was unofficially employed by the government as an Alian translator as they would be the only people to understand him!!

Mike has been ill for sometime but has managed to attend every past players lunch and was planning to come to the last one which was cancelled due to Covid. He will be missed by his family and all those older members who played and drank with him.

His funeral will be on Monday 21st December at St Mary’s Chorch Neston at 12.30 . Then onto Landican at 2.00pm. Whilst Covid restrictions apply those who can stand outside at either the church or Landican will be welcome.
