2nd team preview for Caldy v Blackburn Cup and Conference Double Header

After their perfect record in winning the Cotton Traders Premier League this Saturday Caldy 2nd xv take on a strong Blackburn side in the quarter final of the Robinson Brewery Cup with a 2 pm kick off at Paton Field. Caldy’s forwards coach Christian Jones is expecting a tough game.

“The regular league season is over, and we are now concentrating on the Cup and Conference competitions. This match is being played as both a Cup and Conference fixture, so it is doubly important. Blackburn are a good side finishing in mid table in their first season in the Premier League after climbing up from the First division and then the Championship in successive seasons.”

“Although we picked up both wins against them in the regular league season that will count for nothing on Saturday. They will be coming to Paton Field with no pressure and everything to play for. We need to be ready for a big challenge from them.”

Coaches Andrew Soutar and Christian Jones are looking to maintain the momentum and have picked an extremely strong squad for the fixture as Andrew Soutar explained.

“We have our own objectives this season and winning the Cup and the Conference is part of that. However, the bigger picture is getting everyone up to National league standard and we are making good progress in that regard. There have been some terrific individual performances over the last few games which have certainly put a number of players in the frame for 1st team spots. We will be looking for another good performance on Saturday.

Caldy’s squad for the match against Blackburn which kicks off at Paton Field at 2 p.m. on Saturday is as follows:

1.Joe Sanders, 2. Johnson Chandigere, 3. Tom Clarke, 4. Fraser Smale,5. Ryen Spencer Wolfe, 6. Ty Adams, 7. Callum Ridgway, 8. Dave Jones, 9. Liam Issacs, 10. Callum Bennett, 11. Thomas Cornall, 12. Alex White, 13. Matt Hooks, 14.Tommy Banks, 15. Jorge Lewtas, 16. Peter Weller, 17. Jack Keegan, 18. Adam Kelly, 19. Max Doyle, 20. Jack Riley

The Five Nations matches will be shown in the club house ensuring those coming to support Caldy’s brilliant 2nd xv will be able to keep up to date with events elsewhere whilst watching what promises to be great live rugby between Caldy and Blackburn
