That Friday Feeling

It is Friday once again and it is going to be another busy weekend at Paton Field with the second XV at home taking on Lymm Second team.

The first XV travel across the Pennies to face Sheffield Tigers with both sides unbeaten in their first two games in National 2 North this season.

The Tigers, who sit in 4th place two places behind 2nd placed Caldy, have made a good start to the season with a good win against Chester 25-19 in their opening fixture followed by a win on the road against Scunthorpe. Caldy’s Director of Rugby Gareth Davies knows how strong Tigers are but he also believes Caldy will improve after last week’s somewhat lacklustre victory over Chester.

Davies said “Defences were very much on top last week with both sides cancelling each other out. There is a lot of familiarity amongst the Caldy and Chester players and both sides were able to plan to nullify each others strengths. It was a tough game but we won and we will get better. This week we have a different set of challenges against Sheffield Tigers. They have a lot of very good players and in fly half Mark Ireland they have an outstanding goal kicker who will punish us for any indiscretions. We need to be disciplined”.

Caldy picked up a couple of injuries in last week’s tussle against Chester which will probably necessitate changes in their back row with the return of the incredibly versatile and highly effective Adam Aigbokhae likely.

The second team is in action at home this weekend against Lymm, the second team kick off is at 3pm.

The second team are also unbeaten having won twice on the road already this season with a handsome win at Rossendale on the opening day and a comeback victory at Preston Grasshoppers last weekend.
