Loughborough Students v Caldy

After last weeks bonus point victory at Sheffield Tigers, league leaders Caldy are on the road again this weekend with a trip to face Loughborough Students.

The Students were relegated from National 1 last season finishing bottom. They have started their centenary season well with a win at home to Hinckley and two defeats on the road at Chester and Stourbridge and sit in mid table six points behind Caldy.

Last season both sides won their respective home games with Caldy winning 43-19 in week three of the season before traveling to the university side In late January with an injury hit squad losing 53-19.

Caldy will be looking to continue their good start to the season having taken a maximum 10 points on the road so far.

Last weeks man of the match, the versatile Lewis Barker playing at 10 will be looking to put in another top class performance as will former Students player Jack Collister who played at National 1 level for Loughborough.

Collister is one of many players from the local area to play for both sides whilst at the University famed for its sporting heritage.

The game also saw brothers Tom and Jack Sanders take to the pitch together, with Tom starting at Lock and Jack coming off the bench, the first time two brothers have been in a Ravers matchday squad since current Captain JJ and his brother Sam Dickinson nearly a decade ago.

The Students alumni includes England World Cup winning coach Clive Woodward. The Students current head coach is former England International George Chuter who won 24 caps for England at Hooker.

Caldy will be wary of the fact that Loughborough will have a new intake of players at the start of the academic year and will be looking to cement a place in the first team for the entire season.

The game at the University Stadium Loughborough kicks off at 2pm on Saturday.
