Caldy v Chester Match Preview

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

After last week’s bonus point victory at Hinckley, Caldy open their home campaign against their nearest rivals Chester this Sunday with a kick off at 3pm.

The Ravers were in fine form last weekend running in four tries from Gavin Roberts, a brace from last season’s top scorer Nick Royle and the last from new signing Cameron Davies sealed the win.

Hinckley Director of Rugby former All Black International Scott Hamilton said after Saturday’s match ‘Caldy showed their experience as a National 1 side today. Man for man, I didn’t feel that they were any better than us but they were very well organised and they did the basics well’.

With Caldy being one of the favourites for promotion the players are aware that they will be a scalp for each team wanting to beat them particularly on their home patch and Chester will provide a tough opening opponent for the game at Paton Field.

The Hare Lane side finished runners up to Hull Ionians last season and lost out on promotion to Canterbury in the playoff. Chester claimed a losing bonus point away at Sheffield Tigers last week with the home side winning 25-19.

Caldy and Chester have played out some great battles over the years and the second XV’s had a great battle last year for the League title with Caldy coming out on top on both occasions.

The teams last met in National 2 North in 2016/17 with Caldy doing the double, winning at Hare Lane 35-17 in September and 21-3 at home a week before Christmas 2016.

Apart from a few bumps and bruises and a broken toe for Jack Parker, Caldy are at full strength for the match.

The match is the only match In the league to be played on Sunday this week and kicks off at 3pm.
